UPS Logistics Group Selects Baxter Planning Systems as Preferred
Parts Planning Software Provider
Austin, TEXAS (April 16, 2002) - Baxter Planning Systems, a fast growing
developer of supply chain planning services and applications that transform
service parts organizations into strategic assets, announced today that UPS
Logistics Group has named Prophet by Baxter(TM) as its preferred provider of
parts planning software.
"Baxter Planning Systems' integrated suite of applications, Prophet by Baxter,
will enable UPS Logistics planners to forecast exactly what inventory needs to
be where and when, improving customer responsiveness and increasing the profitability
of service parts organizations," said Greg Baxter, president and chief executive
officer of Baxter Planning Systems.
"UPS Logistics has global visibility of our clients' networks, so we have a deep
understanding of client inventory needs," said Bob Stoffel, senior vice president
and COO of UPS Service Parts Logistics, UPS Logistics Group."A pre-planned service
parts network can tighten post-sales service costs and, at the same time, boost
customer service.
"With these enhanced services, UPS Logistics Group's clients have a very strong
alternative to in-house planning that will save money through lower inventory
carrying costs, improved technician productivity, lower warranty penalties, and
streamlined transportation costs."
Using Prophet by Baxter, a dedicated UPS Logistics team of expert parts planners
can calculate the appropriate level of inventory, its optimal location, and
its expected demand, translating into even deeper incremental savings for customers.
Baxter's solution fully integrates with UPS Logistics' technology platform,
a system that allows customers to see when and where inventory is moving throughout
the UPS Logistics network.
Today, UPS Logistics' global solution includes returns, repairs, management
of clients' critical spares inventory, tracking of end-to-end parts movement,
and expedited delivery to achieve stringent service warranty obligations and
minimize operational downtime.
UPS Logistics' parts planning services will initially launch in the U.S. and
Canada, with plans to expand into Europe and Asia. The new service supplements
UPS Logistics' current network and site planning service that advises clients
on appropriate transportation modes, where to put distribution centers and
inventory, and how to utilize supply chain technology to operate more efficiently.
