Baxter Connects to Powersource Online's E-Marketplace
AUSTIN, TX - (June 4, 2001) - Baxter Planning Systems Inc. today announced
an alliance with PowerSource Online Inc. that reduces inventory costs and improves
customer service for service organizations that support and maintain computers,
printers, monitors, hard drives and other systems hardware.
The partnership connects users of Prophet by Baxter(TM), a Web-based software
suite that optimizes the supply chain for service companies, with members of
the Web-based, electronic markets that PowerSource Online Inc. operates for
buyers and sellers of new, used, refurbished and surplus computer parts, peripherals
and telecommunications equipment.
PowerSource Online and Baxter will also tune Prophet for use by selected members
of PowerSource Online's worldwide customer base of more than 2000 distributors,
dealers, resellers and service companies.
"Our joint goal is to improve customer service," said Tom Peck, president of
PowerSource Online, which is ranked among the top 25 revenue-generating, Web-based
markets by Net Market Makers, an industry researcher that provides information,
analysis and community to business-to-business intermediaries making markets
on the Internet.
"We are integrating supply-chain software for service companies with the industry-leading
electronic markets for spare parts. This puts the inventory that service companies
need into their hands, quickly, electronically. The service company doesn't have
to stock all the parts, yet it still meets its service commitments. These are
strategic advantages when customers expect 24-by-7 service levels," said Peck.
Prophet optimizes inventory flow and cuts the number of parts a service organization
must stock by forecasting and planning supply needs over the entire support
life of a product. Users of Prophet are aware in advance of potential shortages
and excesses, two factors that can significantly influence inventory costs.
With this knowledge, Prophet users can return inventory to optimal stocking
levels by connecting to PowerSource Online to buy via PowerBid and sell via
PowerAuction.
PowerBid is a transaction service that transmits RFQ orders ("requests for
quotes") from buyers to suppliers. PowerAuction gives Prophet users the ability
to sell excess inventory.
"The seamless integration between Prophet and PowerBid will help customers dramatically
reduce lead times and costs associated with meeting supply requirements," said
Greg Baxter, president of Baxter Planning Systems. "In addition, Prophet's end
of life planning capabilities can proactively determine excess inventory, which
can be offered via PowerAuction to ensure it is disposed of at the highest possible
market value."
